The VA presumes non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is related to exposure to Agent Orange or other herbicides during military service. If you served in Vietnam or in the offshore waters of Vietnam during the Vietnam Era you do not have to prove a connection between your disease and service to be eligible to receive VA health care and disability compensation.
What Is Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma?
Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a type of cancer of the lymph glands and other lymphatic tissue, which are part of the body’s immune system that helps to fight infection and disease.
Signs include swollen, painless lymph nodes in the neck, armpit, or groin areas in the early stages. Other signs may include:
- fever
- also night sweats
- fatigue
- weight loss
- abdominal pain or swelling
- chest pain
- trouble breathing
- itchy skin
VA benefits for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
If you are a Veteran with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma who was exposed to herbicides during service or served in Vietnam during the Vietnam Era (including the waters offshore), you may be eligible for disability compensation and health care. Veterans who served in Vietnam, the Korean demilitarized zone or another area where Agent Orange was sprayed may be eligible for a free Agent Orange registry health exam.
Surviving spouses, dependent children, and dependent parents of Veterans who were exposed to herbicides during military service or served in Vietnam during the Vietnam Era (including the waters offshore) and died as the result of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma may be eligible for survivors’ benefits.
