The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Veterans Day National Committee (VDNC) are inviting cities, towns, and non-profit organizations across the nation to play a special role in honoring America’s heroes. Applications are now open to become a VA-recognized regional site for Veterans Day observances in 2025.
This is a unique opportunity for your community to join the national effort in paying tribute to our Veterans. Last year, 56 communities proudly hosted official observances, supporting the National Veterans Day Observance activities and serving as inspirational models for events nationwide.
Why become an official regional site?
Selected sites are recognized for their commitment to honoring Veterans and their ability to organize impactful community events, from parades to educational programs. As an official site, your organization will receive:
- Official VA Veterans Day posters.
- A certificate of recognition from the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
Is your community event eligible?
The VA and VDNC select sites based on criteria ensuring the event properly honors Veterans.
Key requirements include:
- The event must be dedicated solely to honoring those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
- It needs support from, and be open to participation by, Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs).
- Support from local city, county, or town authorities is required.
- The event must be free, open to the public, and not serve as a fundraiser.
