Blue Water Vets Legislation Update 2015
Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY18) is one of the ardent supporters of the Blue Water Vets Legislation. He is among those pushing for the legislation and he believes that support is gaining momentum in Congress and legislation is coming closer to floor vote. As of November 16, 2015 there are 290 sponsors in the House and 75 co-sponsors in the Senate. Congressman Maloney would like to see it passed this year
The Blue Water Veterans Legislation would grant disability benefits to Vietnam War veterans who have become ill from the effects of Agent Orange, but never touched Southeast Asian soil. Many vets have contracted cancer years later and many have died as a result of being stationed on ships off the coast of Viet Nam during the war and were in contact with water containing Agent Orange.
While the process of including Blue Water vets for disabilities benefits has taken far too long, supporters of the bill, like Congressman Maloney, believe the proposal will make it through both houses of Congress.
